Of the entire Team Flippen roster, only captain Hannah Flippen sat in the Top 10 on the All-Star Cup leaderboard heading into Series Four. But after a decisive win over Team Klingler to start the weekend, the whole group made strides up in the rankings.
Most notably was Bubba Nickles-Camarena, who hit a go-ahead three-run home run in the third inning. It secured her 40 stats points along with MVP 2 honors for an additional 40 points along with the 120 win points her entire team gathered. MVP 1 went to Rachel Garcia who not only picked up the win in the circle, but made a heads up play to secure the victory.
Team Klingler had runners on first and second with two outs. Sydney Sherrill put a hard hit ball in play to Garcia who had been shifted over to first base. Even though she didn’t field it cleanly, Garcia kept her head on a swivel and notcied Alyssa Brito taking off for home. A throw to catcher Dejah Mulipola who laid on the tag recorded the third out and sealted the win for Team Flippen.
Garcia had a great outing in the circle too, throwing 5.1 innings and allowing on two hits, two walks and one earned run with five strikeouts. Kenzie Brown came in behind her to close out the game, tossing 1.2 scoreless innings to pick up the save.
Team Klingler’s lone run came in the second, when Amari Harper knocked a sacrifice fly that brought in Sydney McKinney from third.
Team Flippen will come back out on Satuday night to face Team Kilfoyl at 8 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. CT on MLB Network.
