Personal: Chaffin is the daughter of Edmund and Laurie Chaffin and has one sister, Makenzie, who played softball at Northwestern State. She is a cancer survivor, having been diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2024. In 2025, she got engaged to Preston Basco. She also has a cat named Mister. Chaffin learned to pitch at the age of 12 and went on to major in interdisciplinary studies at Mississippi State. She credits Mississippi State assistant coach Taryne Mowatt-McKinney as someone who has made a significant impact on her journey. She models her game after Rachel Garcia and names her mother as one of her idols, admiring her for treating everyone with love and kindness. In addition to softball, Chaffin competed in cheerleading and archery as a child. Her proudest accomplishments include getting baptized and setting records at Mississippi State. She enjoys working out, reading, and spending time with friends and family. A moment that made her feel starstruck was when fellow Athletes Unlimited Softball League players started following her on social media.
International Experience: Chaffin led Team USA to a Gold medal at the 2021 WBSC U-18 World Cup in Lima, Peru. She fashioned a 1.85 earned run average with 15 strikeouts over 11.1 innings while earning two starts.
College Experience: Chaffin was a three-year letter winner at LSU before transferring to Mississippi State for the 2025 season. She appeared in 96 career games in the circle, making 66 starts, and compiled a 46-18 overall record with five saves and a 3.04 earned run average across 389.1 innings. Over her four-year career, she totaled 362 strikeouts, including a personal-best 205 during her senior season. In her lone season with the Bulldogs, Chaffin earned First-Team NFCA All-South Region honors and was named to the All-Southeastern Conference Second Team. She made 43 appearances with 30 starts in 2025, posting a 23-10 record with a 3.15 ERA and 19 complete games, including four shutouts. She recorded a season-high 11 strikeouts in a complete game shutout at Kentucky on April 27, 2025, and matched that total in wins over Jacksonville State and Auburn. She opened the season without allowing an earned run in her first four outings and racked up 20 strikeouts over 22.2 innings during that stretch. Chaffin also played a key role in the NCAA Tournament, earning the win against Washington with nine strikeouts in a 6-3 victory. During her time at LSU, Chaffin posted a 23-8 record over three seasons, adding two saves and 10 complete games. As a junior, she tallied 11 wins with a 2.86 ERA and 76 strikeouts in 88.0 innings, including shutout victories over Pittsburgh and Houston. She registered a 6-1 record with a 2.74 ERA as a sophomore and began her collegiate career with a 6-2 record in 2022, collecting 48 strikeouts. Her freshman campaign included a career-high 12 strikeouts in a complete game shutout against Central Connecticut State on March 6, 2022.
