Newman majored in psychology at Drake before earning her MEd in Youth Development Leadership at the University of Minnesota. She is currently a Graduate Manager for University of Minnesota Softball.

Newman was selected in the third round of the 2019 NPF Draft by the Aussie Peppers. In her first NPF season she posted 28 strikeouts with a 4.25 ERA. In 2020 she was traded to the Chicago Bandits.
