On Friday evening, Husky Softball Stadium in Seattle was the site of a special pre-game moment as two iconic sports figures, Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe, stepped into the circle to throw out the first pitch. The ceremonial first pitch kicked off the game between the Blaze and Volts, with the two sports legends adding their mark to the highly anticipated series.

Sue Bird, a WNBA legend, is one of the most decorated basketball players of all time. She spent her entire 21-season career with the Seattle Storm and has amassed numerous accolades, including four WNBA championships, five Olympic gold medals, two NCAA titles, and five EuroLeague championships. 

Bird is the WNBA’s all-time assist leader with 3,234 career assists, and she ranks second in career three-pointers made (1,001), third in steals (724), and ninth in points (6,803). As the No. 1 overall pick in the 2002 WNBA Draft, Bird’s fingerprints are all over the league, and her influence extends far beyond the court.

Megan Rapinoe, a renowned soccer icon, has had a career marked by remarkable achievements, including two Olympic medals and two World Cup titles. 

Rapinoe was known for her playmaking ability and prowess in free kicks, and contributed to over 200 international appearances for the U.S. Women’s National Team. Her Olympic accolades include a gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics and a bronze in 2020 at Tokyo. As a three-time Olympian and multi-time World Cup medalist, Rapinoe has cemented her legacy as one of the most influential figures in women’s sports.
