To the staff and players within the Athletes Unlimited Softball League (AUSL), Kim Ng is a leader, visionary, and now the commissioner.

But “Kim Ng” in the larger sports world is a buzzword. And for good reason.

Ng was a successful MLB executive for 30 years and was the first female general manager of a major American men’s professional sports team with the Miami Marlins. The Marlins made it to October in year three for Ng, marking the club’s first playoff appearance in two decades.

The clicks, tweets, and hits start coming when you mention Ng. This is how the sports world reacted to her being named the commissioner of the AUSL:

Baseball reporter Jeff Passan broke the news of Ng’s new position on ESPN.com.

Chad Jennings from The Athletic described her three decades in Major League Baseball as “relentless and unprecedented.”

Although Ng’s professional career followed a path in baseball, she’s not new to the softball world. She started with the sport in middle school and played at the University of Chicago. Two of her sisters also played in college.

A little aggressive, but the support is appreciated.

And for all the MLB fans who wish Ng would turn their favorite franchise around – sorry, not sorry.

The AUSL is a professional women’s softball league featuring four teams playing in a traditional format. Tickets to the 2025 season are on sale now.
