Middle infielder Sierra Romero has signed with the Athletes Unlimited Softball League (AUSL) for its inaugural season. The AUSL is a professional women’s softball league featuring four teams playing in a traditional format. The league will begin play this summer.
Romero is a veteran who began her pro career in 2016 after finishing an illustrious career at Michigan. She has played in three AU Championship Seasons with her highest leaderboard ranking in 2023 in 13th place. She currently serves in a leadership role on the Softball Player Executive Committee. Romero started in all 15 games in the 2024 Championship Season and recorded a .250 average with two doubles, two home runs, and six RBIs.
One of the best college softball players of all time, Romero was the 2016 Honda Sports Award winner and USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year. She was a four-time All-American and the first player in NCAA history to record 300 runs, 300 hits, and 300 RBI. Romero still holds the NCAA record for career grand slams (11).
The general managers of the four teams will assemble the inaugural rosters at the AUSL Inaugural Draft, which will take place in early 2025. A college draft will also be held later in the spring, allowing each team to fill out its final roster spots. Details regarding both drafts will be announced at a later date.
