With the highest ERA in the league by three points, the Blaze’s pitching woes have plagued the team in the inaugural season. They found some help on Friday, ahead of the July 11 Trade Deadline, acquiring left-hander Devyn Netz from the Bandits in exchange for infielder Danielle Gisbon Whorton.
The Bandits entered the season with six arms, one over the league minimum requirement of five.
Netz, a two-way player, threw 11.0 innings for the Bandits and stands with a 5.09 ERA. She has a 1-2 record and an opponent batting average of .319. Netz made her biggest impact on the Bandits at first base with 14 starts, recording 70 putouts and a fielding percentage of .974. She is batting .273 on the season with two home runs and an OPS of .788.
Gibson Whorton started in all 15 games for the Blaze and is one of the more consistent hitters in the league. She’s logged a .340 average in 47 at-bats with an on-base percentage of .407. Gibson Whorton has knocked three doubles, two home runs, and 15 RBIs for the Blaze.
Both athletes are in market with their new teams and are available for games tonight. The Bandits will face the Talons at 6 p.m. CT in Omaha, Neb., with the game airing on ESPNU. The Blaze begins a three-game series with the Volts in Seattle, Wash., at 9 p.m. CT on MLB.com.
