Baylee Klingler delivered a two-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Team Klingler to a 2-1 victory over Team Landry on Saturday night at Parkway Bank Sports Complex.
After six scoreless innings, Megan Grant broke the tie with a solo home run for Team Landry in the top of the seventh. Klingler answered in the bottom half, sending a 2-2 pitch over the center-field wall with two outs to turn a one-run deficit into a Team Klingler win.
Ailana Agbayani started the rally with a bunt for a single and advanced to second on a throwing error. Sam Landry retired the next two batters before Klingler stepped to the plate and hit her first home run of the All-Star Cup. Klingler finished 1-for-4 with two RBIs and earned MVP 1 honors.
The late offensive burst followed a pitchers’ duel that kept both teams off the board through six innings. The game marked the first contest in All-Star Cup history to remain scoreless through six frames. Megan Faraimo led the way in her start for Team Klingler, allowing just two hits over five scoreless innings while striking out seven. Her seven Ks marked the most by a pitcher in the All-Star Cup this season
Georgina Corrick matched Faraimo, her Utah Talons teammate, early for Team Landry, and recorded four scoreless innings with four strikeouts before Rachel Garcia followed with 1.1 hitless innings.
Grant finally ended the shutout with her fourth home run of the All-Star Cup, taking Kat Sandercock deep to right-center to give Team Landry a 1-0 advantage. Team Landry threatened to add to the lead later in the inning, and loaded the bases before Lexi Kilfoyl entered and recorded the final out.
Kilfoyl earned the win, while Landry took the loss after allowing Klingler’s walk-off homer. Team Klingler finished with six hits to Team Landry’s four and swept all 130 available win points.
Klingler’s performance earned her a season-high 230 leaderboard points and moved her back into first place in the individual standings. Faraimo earned MVP 2 honors, Grant received MVP 3 and Sydney Sherrill was named Defensive MVP.
