Anissa Urtez

University of Utah '17

Hometown: Long Beach, California

Two-Time AU Pro Softball All-Defensive Team

Personal: Urtez majored in human development and family studies at Utah. Her childhood dream was to become a professional athlete, and she has dedicated her life to making that dream a reality. She is motivated every day by her family, her wife, and their dog, Hank.

Her hobbies include gardening, kayaking, hiking, biking, playing pickleball, and traveling. On June 28, 2024, she married former Athletes Unlimited Pro Softball athlete Amanda Chidester. Urtez lists former Utah assistant coach Maggie Livreri Huffaker as a person who has made a significant difference in her life. Her proudest accomplishments include playing for Team Mexico at the Olympics and getting married. As a child, she was involved in Guitar Club, dance, tennis, and volleyball. She models her game after her former high school teammate, Katie Medina. One moment when she felt starstruck was watching Amanda Chidester hit a home run in her final Athletes Unlimited at-bat. Urtez chose to wear No. 17 because it was her jersey number in college and at the Olympics. Her walk-up song is “Drifter” by Hippie Sabotage.

2024 Championship Season: Urtez accumulated 1,128 leaderboard points, including 870 win points, during the season. She started all 15 games, posting a .267 batting average with 12 hits. Urtez tied for fifth in the league with four doubles, drove in seven runs, and drew three walks. She registered at least one hit in six of her final nine games, including four multi-hit outings. Urtez secured MVP 2 plaudits and a season-high 160 leaderboard points after going 2-for-3 with two runs batted in against Team McQuillin on August 10. She followed that with a 2-for-4 performance, including a double, against Team Kilfoyl on August 11. She closed the season with back-to-back two-hit games against Team Lorenz and Team Kilfoyl. Urtez tallied 100 or more leaderboard points in a game five times.

2023 Championship Season: Urtez compiled 1,452 leaderboard points to secure 11th place in the final league standings. She authored a 1-2 record as a team captain during Week Four. Urtez tied for ninth in the league with a .500 slugging percentage and hit three home runs, in addition to driving in nine runs. She shared fourth place in the league rankings by collecting 23 total bases. Urtez registered at least one hit in seven consecutive games from August 5-19 and was a starter in all 15 games, fashioning a .261 batting average. Urtez posted two hits and drove in two runs against Team Rhodes on July 29 to secure MVP 2 distinction. She went 1-for-3 with a solo home run against Team Faraimo on August 13 to receive MVP 2 honors and a season-high 190 leaderboard points. Urtez authored nine games with 100 or more leaderboard points.

2022 Championship Season: Urtez accumulated 1,246 leaderboard points, including 316 stat points, and was a member of the Athletes Unlimited Softball All-Defensive Team for the second straight year. Urtez hit safely in seven consecutive games from Aug. 12-26, fashioning a .346 (9-for-26) average with a home run and four runs batted in. She opened the season by hitting three home runs in the first four games, including back-to-back contests to begin Week One.
