Right-handed pitcher Georgina Corrick delivered the second complete-game shutout in Athletes Unlimited Softball League history on Tuesday night, pitching the Talons to a 4-0 victory over the Volts.

The Talons moved to 10-3 on the season, and lead the league’s standings and extend their winning streak to six games. This isn’t the first time Corrick had the Volts’ number; she threw the first-ever AUSL complete-game shutout on June 21 against the Volts in Norman, Okla.

“At the end of the day, everything’s for the Talons,” Corrick said. “I was having phenomenal conversations with Sharlize Palacios behind the dish. I was able to come in and talk to minds like Megan Faraimo. So having those conversations with people who can talk you through things [and] know you as a person. They now that even on your ‘C’ days and your ‘B’ days, you’re a competitor.”

Corrick limited the Volts to just three hits while recording two walks and five strikeouts over 117 pitches.

The offense provided run support, highlighted by a 3-for-3 outing from Caroline Jacobsen with an RBI in the fifth. Sharlize Palacios put the team on the board in the second, hitting an RBI double to left field. Sydney Romero upped the lead to 2-0 in the fourth inning, then Talons added on two more runs in the fifth, including a solo shot from Jadelyn Allchin, her second on the season.

“We feel like it’s really hard to beat us because every out is a difficult out. And so I want to reflect that mentality from the defensive side of things,” Corrick said. “When I’m pitching, I want to feel suffocating and even if I don’t have my best stuff, I am smart enough. With the minds and the conversations that we’re able to have, you’re able to be suffocating even with not your best stuff because you’re throwing what’s best for those situations.”

Corrick improved her record to 4-0 and is now tied with teammate Raelin Chaffin for the league lead in wins.

The shutout marks the Talons’ first win in a two-game series against the Volts. They will face them again on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. CT at Parkway Bank Sports Complex in Rosemont, Ill. The game will be televised on MLB.com.
