The Quick Story: The Talons held off a late comeback bid by the Volts to secure a four-game sweep of their Athletes Unlimited Softball League series with an 8-6 victory at Love’s Field on Monday night.
Key Moment: After falling behind by a 1-0 margin in the opening inning, the Talons surged ahead by scoring the game’s next four runs to take a 4-1 lead in the third inning. They expanded their advantage to 8-2 in the top of the seventh inning before the Volts mounted a comeback with four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, including a three-run home run by outfielder Amanda Lorenz. Pitcher Georgina Corrick ended the threat by getting the final out to nail down her first save of the season.

- The Talons become the first team in AUSL history to record a four-game series sweep … The squad has now won eight of their last nine games and are tied for first place in the standings with the Bandits at 9-3.
- The Talons allowed the game’s opening run for just the third time in 12 contests this season … Opponents have now scored against the Talons during the first inning in 7-of-12 games after the Volts went ahead by a 1-0 count.
- The Talons were hit by a pitch six times in Monday’s series finale, setting an AUSL team single-game high … The Talons have now been hit by a pitch 10 times over the last four games.

- Infielder Tori Vidales hit safely for the sixth time in her last seven games with a double to right center field in the third inning.
- Pitcher Raelin Chaffin, who upped her record to a league-best 4-1, threw a season-high 5.0 innings on Monday night against the Volts, allowing two runs on four hits with three strikeouts.
- Pitcher Georgina Corrick finished the series against the Volts with a 2-0 record in addition to earning a save in Monday night’s finale … She scattered four hits without allowing a run over 9.0 innings with eight strikeouts.

- The Volts initiated a coach’s challenge in the bottom of the third inning when outfielder Ciara Briggs was called out after trying to reach third base on a hit into left center field …. The challenge was unsuccessful after the call was upheld.
- The Volts also requested a coach’s challenge on a double down the left field line by infielder Hannah Flippen to start the top of the seventh inning … The challenge was unsuccessful after the call was upheld (fair ball).
- The Volts plated a run in the first inning for just the third time this season … They also scored the game’s first run for the fifth time.
- Six of the Volts’ nine hits came with two outs along with a 4-for-10 success rate with runners on base.
- The Volts have lost eight of their last 10 games after opening the season with back-to-back victories.
- Outfielder Amanda Lorenz has reached base safely in all 12 games this season after hitting a double to right field in the first inning … She also added a solo home run with two outs in the third inning for her fourth multi-hit game of the season, including her third

- Utility player Samantha Show recorded her first hit of the season with a single up the middle in the seventh inning … In addition, she allowed one run on two hits over 0.2 innings with a strikeout in the circle.
- Pitcher Payton Gottshall (1-1) suffered the loss in the circle after giving up four runs on three hits with two strikeouts in 2.1 innings.
