AUSL Co-Pitchers of the Series: Pitchers Georgina Corrick and Megan Faraimo helped lead the Talons to three wins while in Rosemont, Illinois, and share Series 5 pitching honors. Faraimo made two appearances in the circle, including a five-inning complete game against the Blaze, where she allowed only two hits, one run, two walks, and logged seven strikeouts. To sweep the two-game series against the Volts, Faraimo tossed four scoreless innings on Wednesday afternoon and allowed only three hits. She upped her record to 3-0 on the season.
There are only two complete-game shutouts in Athletes Unlimited Softball League history, and both belong to Corrick. She did it for the first time against the Volts on June 21, earning Pitcher of the Series honors. She did it again on July 8, 17 days later, against the same opponent. Corrick limited the Volts to just three hits while recording two walks and five strikeouts over 117 pitches. She is the first pitcher to earn the honor in back-to-back series.
AUSL Player of the Series: Catcher Kayla Kowalik earns Player of the Series honors for her all-around impact on the field. In the two-game series against the Bandits, Kowalik was 3-for-6 at the plate with two runs, an RBI, and three walks. Her heads-up baserunning was crucial in the Blaze’s 12-10 win over the Bandits on July 8 and helped the team log a victory against the top team in the standings. She walked with the bases loaded to score the first run of the game; the Blaze scored first for just the third time in their 14 games this season. Then in the second, Kowalik laid down a bunt that caused chaos, scoring a run on a throwing error. In a heads-up play with Ana Gold on third base, Kowalik took off for second, sacrificing herself as an out to allow Gold to score. The play demonstrated a high game awareness and softball IQ from the catcher. Behind the dish, she laid down the tag in the fourth inning for a crucial out at home when Morgan Zerkle attempted to steal and tie the game. Kowalik executed a steal at home in the bottom of the frame to give the Blaze a two-run lead. She is the first Blaze athlete to be recognized for series honors.
