The Volts made the trip to Seattle to take on the Blaze, and after an exciting game one come-from-behind victory, the team in purple and green stumbled in the second two matchups. Here’s how it happened:

GAME ONE: Volts 11, Blaze 6

The Volts’ offense fired on all cylinders in the first game of the series. The Blaze scored four runs in the top of the first inning, but the Volts chipped away in the second and third. In the fourth inning, they scored seven runs (the most in a single inning in AUSL history) to break open the game.

As a team, they notched 15 hits. Jessi Warren was stellar, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs. She was also a vacuum at third base with multiple highlight-reel-worthy plays at third base.

Sis Bates shined in her return to Husky Softball Stadium, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.

GAME TWO: Blaze 3, Volts 1

In Game Two, the Blaze bounced back with a good performance from their pitching staff. Aliyah Binford, Devyn Netz and Keilani Ricketts combined for seven innings pitched. They allowed just five hits and did not walk a single batter as a staff.

The Blaze scored runs in the first and third innings, but the Volts responded with a run in the fifth on an RBI from Daneica Coffey. The Blaze scored one more run in the sixth and sealed the victory.

GAME THREE: Blaze 10, Volts 2

The rubber match of the series was dominated by the Blaze and their bats. Three players hit home runs – Netz, Ana Gold, and McKenzie Clark.

The Blaze began the scoring in the top of the second inning on a home run from Gold. The Volts answered in the bottom of the fourth when Sierra Romero doubled and eventually came around to score.

The Blaze took the lead again in the fifth inning with a solo shot from Netz. They then broke the game open in the 6th inning, scoring five runs. The Blaze added three more in the seventh.

TAKEAWAYS

1. The offense is capable.

Game One showed that the Volts’ offense is indeed capable of scoring plenty of runs, and they have plenty of options to do so. Six different Volts players had at least two hits, and eight had at least one.

They also were able to rally from behind and score in bunches, something that has come at a premium for the team in purple and green.

2. Mia Scott is finding her groove.

The rookie is finding her stride in the Volts uniform. She has reached base safely in eight straight games. This weekend, she hit her first home run of her pro career and finished the series 3-for-8 with three RBIs.

The Volts head to Round Rock, Texas, to take on the Bandits in a four-game series beginning on July 17th at 7:00 pm EST.
