Defense stole the show in the final inning of the Utah Talons’ Game 2 victory over the Chicago Bandits on Wednesday night.
With the Talons protecting a one-run lead and winds exceeding 20 miles per hour at Dumke Family Softball Stadium, Jadelyn Allchin entered in right field and quickly found herself in the center of the action.
After recording the first out of the seventh inning on a fly ball drifting toward the right field line, Allchin came charging in on a sinking liner off the bat of Sami Williams. She laid out in shallow right field and made a diving catch that brought the home crowd to its feet and left the Bandits down to their final out.
One batter later, Aliyah Andrews joined the defensive action.
Bella Dayton roped a ball, just foul, down the left field line, but Andrews covered ground quickly before leaving her feet for a fully extended diving catch to end the game.
The back-to-back highlight-reel worthy catches secured the final two outs of the night and sealed a 1-0 win for the Talons, who improved to 2-0 on the season.
