If two-way players are becoming a rare breed, then Rachel Garcia is a unicorn.
She entered the circle in the third inning during the Volts’ first matchup with the Talons on Friday night and faced a lineup that was off to a hot start. Garcia shut things down and scattered two hits over 5.0 innings with four strikeouts in relief.
Then, in the bottom of the fifth, she launched a 267-foot moonshot for her first home run of the season. It trimmed the deficit for the Volts to 3-1.
“It felt so good,” Garcia said. “Immediately off the bat, I was like ‘That was what I’ve been trying to get back to.'”
