Kelly Torres

Personal: Torres is the daughter of John Torres and Dr. Kelly Insignares and has one older brother. She currently serves as a graduate assistant softball coach at Clemson University while pursuing her master’s degree in health psychology. She has two English bulldogs named Mako and Tuna. Torres credits her trainer, Chris De La Rosa, as a person who has made a difference in her life and models her game after Yadier Molina. She cites her parents as her idols because of their faith and love. Her proudest accomplishment is earning her bachelor’s degree from Duke. In her free time, Torres enjoys paddleboarding, hiking, exploring nature, yoga, weightlifting, and meditating.

Other Professional Experience: Torres played with the Orlando Monarchs in the Women's Pro Fastpitch league in 2024.

College Experience: Torres is a four-year letter winner at Duke who started 189 of 209 career games for the Blue Devils from 2021 to 2024. She helped lead Duke to both the Atlantic Coast Conference regular season and tournament titles in 2024, as well as the program’s first-ever NCAA Women’s College World Series appearance as a senior. Torres finished her career with a .302 batting average, hitting 15 home runs and driving in 93 runs. She recorded 149 hits, including 24 doubles and four triples, while scoring 100 runs. She holds the Duke career record for throwing out 30 runners attempting to steal. As a senior, Torres earned Third-Team NFCA All-Region honors after starting all 61 games. She posted a .349 batting average during the 2024 season with 40 hits, including six doubles, three triples, and four home runs. She also set the Duke single-season record for being hit by a pitch 14 times. Torres made 54 appearances as a junior, including 50 starts, and hit .260 with seven home runs and 22 RBIs. She became the sixth player in Duke history to hit multiple home runs in a game, hitting two against Alabama on February 16, 2023. During her sophomore year, she started 33 of 44 games and batted .349 with three home runs and 18 RBIs, establishing Duke’s single-season record with a .481 on-base percentage. Torres opened her college career in 2021 by playing in 50 games with 45 starts, batting .238 with 25 hits and 16 RBIs. She was also a three-time member of the ACC Honor Roll.
