Chicago’s softball and baseball worlds came together on the South Side this week, as Mary Iakopo took the mound to throw out the ceremonial first pitch at a Chicago White Sox home game versus the Washington Nationals.

Iakopo, a catcher for the AUSL’s Chicago Bandits, shared the moment alongside 100-year-old World War II veteran Sgt. Frank Veselak, who was honored as the game’s Hero of the Game. She also swapped jerseys with White Sox infielder Chase Meidroth and met team mascot Southpaw during a packed day at the ballpark.

Iakopo and the Bandits will open up the season on June 9 in Salt Lake City, Utah, where they will face the Utah Talons in a three-game series. The team will make its home debut on June 13. Tickets are on sale now.
